Asset Library
The Asset Library is your store of reusable layer images — PNGs with transparency that you drop into grid cells. Store a background, garment, or logo once and reuse it across many products and edits.
Opening the library
Click Asset Library ↗ in the title bar of the Bulk Image Edit page. It opens as an expandable modal — a full file manager you can use without leaving your edit. The same library also appears as a picker whenever you change a cell or run a column swap.
Layout
The library is a two-pane file manager:
- Left — folder tree. Nestable folders, always the single source of navigation. Selecting a folder shows its contents; the tree auto-expands to reveal where you are.
- Right — content pane. Thumbnails (small/large) or a list view, with a breadcrumb, search, and per-asset actions.
The special All images view shows a flat, recursive list of every asset regardless of folder — handy when you remember the image but not where you filed it.
Folders
Organize assets into nestable folders (for example: Backgrounds, Garments, Logos, Seasonal/Winter).
- Create a folder from the toolbar.
- Rename / Move / Delete a folder from its ⋯ menu (folder management lives in the Library). A folder can only be deleted when it's empty.
- Reparent a folder by dragging it — onto another folder, or onto "Home / All images" to move it to the root.
Uploading assets
Upload PNGs by dragging files onto the drop zone or using the upload button. Uploads:
- Go directly from your browser to storage, so big files never bog down the app.
- Show progress in an upload tray; partial success is fine — successful files appear immediately.
- Can be filed into a chosen folder as they upload.
You can also create assets by importing layers from a PSD — same upload path, parsed entirely in your browser.
Per-asset actions
Each asset offers Rename, Move, Download, and Delete from its menu.
Deleting a layer asset frees library space but doesn't change images you've already applied to Shopify — those are flattened composites. Don't delete an asset a draft or armed (scheduled) edit still relies on, or that cell will need a new image.
Using assets in the grid
From any grid cell's Change action or a column swap, the picker opens the same library:
- Pick an existing asset, or upload a new one inline.
- The picker has the same folder tree for navigation. Folder management (rename/delete) stays in the full Library, but you can still create folders here.
Library cap
Your plan limits how many assets you can store at once:
| Plan | Asset Library limit |
|---|---|
| Free | 50 |
| Starter | 1,000 |
| Growth | 10,000 |
| Scale | 100,000 |
- The cap is checked on upload/import — if you're at the limit, the upload is blocked with an upgrade prompt.
- Deleting assets frees space right away.
- Thumbnails and previews don't count — only source assets do.
See Plans & limits for details.
What's next?
- Importing from PSD — Pull layers out of a Photoshop file.
- The layer grid — Use your assets in cells and column swaps.
