The Layer Grid

The grid is where you actually edit images. Rows are products (expandable to their variants); columns are the layers in your stack, with the before/after images up front.

Columns

ColumnWhat it shows
Current ImageThe bucket's existing Shopify image today.
Next ImageA live composite preview of your staged layer stack.
Layer 1 … NOne editable cell per layer (Layer 1 = bottom, Layer N = top).
Export PSDPer-bucket action to download the bucket's layers as a .psd. See Exporting to PSD.

Rows, buckets, and dedup

Each product expands to its variants. Variants that share an image — same color, by default — are grouped into one dedup bucket and edited together: you set the layers once and the resulting composite attaches to every variant in the bucket.

  • The Current Image cell shows the bucket's majority image.
  • If a bucket's variants currently use different images, the cell carries a red-border warning. Open it to see every image a single composite would replace.

Editing a single cell

Click any layer cell to open the cell editor:

  • Change (pencil) — pick an image from the Asset Library or upload a new PNG.
  • Clear (eraser) — unset the staged image for this cell (this only clears your staged change; it's not destructive).
  • Lock (lock icon) — pin this cell so column swaps skip it.

Cell controls are compact, icon-only buttons so a cell stays narrow across every layer column. Each icon has a tooltip describing what it does.

Setting a layer across everything — column swap

To change one layer for every product in scope in a single action, click the ✎ (swap) icon in that layer's column header.

In the column swap panel you:

  • Pick the new image from the Asset Library or upload a PNG.
  • Choose whether to skip locked cells.
  • Set the output format (WebP/JPEG) and quality if prompted.

The change is staged as pending across all rows — nothing is written to Shopify until you create the job.

Column swap is the headline feature

"Swap the summer background for the winter one across 200 products" is a single column swap. This is the action that turns hours of manual re-exporting into one click.

Locked cells

A locked cell is your per-product exception to a bulk column swap. Locked cells:

  • Are skipped by column swaps (when "skip locked cells" is on).
  • Are tinted translucent red across the whole cell so the locked state reads at a glance in a dense grid.

Lock a cell you've hand-tuned so a later "swap this layer for everyone" doesn't overwrite it.

Per-bucket actions

Each bucket row also offers:

  • Preview (eye) — open the composite at full size. See Previews.
  • Export PSD (download) — repackage the bucket's layers into a Photoshop file. See Exporting to PSD.
