Variant: Option Value
Learn how to manage variant option values (like specific sizes, colors, materials) using the Bulk Product Editor.
Overview
Option values represent the specific values for variant options (e.g., "Large" for Size, "Red" for Color, "Cotton" for Material). Shopify supports up to 3 option values per variant, corresponding to the 3 option names. The Bulk Product Editor allows you to standardize, update, or correct option values across multiple variants.
Option Value Structure
- Option 1 Value: Value for the first option (e.g., "Large", "Red", "Basic")
- Option 2 Value: Value for the second option (e.g., "Blue", "Cotton", "Matte")
- Option 3 Value: Value for the third option (e.g., "Organic", "Heavy", "Premium")
Accessing Option Value Fields
- Navigate to the Bulk Product Editor
- Switch to Variant mode (not Product mode)
- Select the variants you want to edit
- In the field selector, choose:
- Variant: Option 1 Value - Primary option value
- Variant: Option 2 Value - Secondary option value
- Variant: Option 3 Value - Tertiary option value

Common Examples
- Size: XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL
- Color: Red, Blue, Green, Black, White
- Style: Classic, Modern, Vintage, Contemporary
- Type: Basic, Standard, Premium, Deluxe
Best Practices

- Avoid special characters that might cause issues
- Use clear, descriptive names customers understand
Option 2 Value
Option 2 Value is the specific value for the second variant option.
Common Examples
- Color (when Size is Option 1): Navy, Burgundy, Forest Green
- Material (when Style is Option 1): Cotton, Polyester, Wool, Silk
- Finish (when Type is Option 1): Matte, Glossy, Satin, Textured
Coordination with Option 1
- Ensure Option 2 values complement Option 1
- Maintain consistency across similar products
- Consider how combinations will display to customers
Option 3 Value
Option 3 Value is the specific value for the third variant option.
When to Use Option 3
- Products with complex variant structures
- High-end products with multiple customization options
- Technical products requiring detailed specifications
Examples
- Material (when Size + Color are Options 1 & 2): Organic Cotton, Bamboo, Recycled Polyester
- Weight (when Type + Size are Options 1 & 2): Light, Medium, Heavy
